Cranberry Orange Muffins

Let’s be real, there’s something about hosting or visiting someone we love that sparks the desire to whip up a homemade treat. We want to bring that nostalgic, made-with-love flavor to the table and share it with those who matter most. But then reality kicks in and time isn’t always on our side. Between work, mom life, and everything in between, making something completely from scratch just isn’t always doable. That’s where a little shortcut comes in handy. With a simple boxed mix and a few easy tweaks, you can still create something that tastes homemade. This Cranberry Orange Muffin recipe is one of those delicious little hacks!

This recipe starts with the Krusteaz Cranberry Orange Muffin Mix, and let me tell you, it’s a total lifesaver when you're short on time! To give it a homemade touch, I added a quick crumb topping and finished it off with a simple orange icing. The result? Even better than I imagined, so flavorful and bakery-worthy! I hope you give this recipe a try the next time you're in a pinch. It’s the perfect way to save time without sacrificing that homemade feel.

Ingredients

For the Muffins:

  • 1 box of Krusteaz Cranberry Orange Muffin Mix

    • Including ingredients listed o the box:

      • 1/2 cup of water

      • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil

      • 2 eggs

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour

For the Orange Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 3 tbsp fresh orange juice

Instructions

Make the Crumble Topping:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until well combined. Add the flour and gently stir with a fork until crumbly, be careful not to overmix, as you want to form soft crumbs, not a paste. Place the bowl in the refrigerator while you prepare the muffin batter. Keeping the crumb topping cold helps it hold its shape while baking.

Make the Muffins:

  1. Prepare the muffin batter according to the instructions on the back of the Krusteaz Cranberry Orange Muffin Mix box.

  2. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with liners.

  3. Scoop just under ¼ cup of batter into each liner.

  4. Once all the liners are filled, remove the crumb topping from the refrigerator and generously sprinkle it over each muffin.

  5. Bake according to the directions on the Krusteaz box.

  6. When the muffins are done baking, remove them from the pan and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the Orange Icing:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and orange juice together until smooth and fully combined.

  2. Drizzle the orange icing onto the top of each cooled muffin.

These Cranberry Orange Muffins are the perfect example of how a simple shortcut can still deliver big homemade flavor. The bright citrusy notes from the orange pair perfectly with the tart bursts of cranberry, while the cozy cinnamon crumb topping adds just the right amount of sweetness and crunch. And that zesty orange glaze? Don’t skip it, it’s pure magic and brings everything together in the most delicious way.

They’re the kind of treat that feels special enough for a holiday brunch or afternoon coffee with a friend, but simple enough to whip up on a busy weekday morning. Whether you're hosting, gifting, or just treating yourself to a quiet moment with something warm and fresh from the oven, this recipe is definitely one to keep in your back pocket.
